Goin tomorrow to buy either the Shure E1's, E2's or the Sennheiser IE3 generic ear monitors.

does anyone have any experience with these. what is the best in terms of good isolation, comfort, and sound. I dont really want to shell out ?125 on the E1's cause i cant really afford it........

The E1's sound great. They have a very smooth, clean response. The E5's sound like they have a slight emphasis on the mid-range that I don't care for. As far as the low end goes, the best combination is to get one of those "Shaker" transducers that clamp on to your drum throne and deliver plenty of powerful low end. Sound weird? You've got to try it. I first heard and "felt" this set-up at the Sensaphonics booth at NAMM in California. Man!!!!!!!! What an unbelievable sound and I wasn't killing my ears with tons of dBs.

Also, when working with the in-the-ear monitors alone, the better coupling to your ear will result in greater low frequency information directed to your ear. This could be done with very well designed foam tips or a custom mold of some type.

You can see the "Shaker" at:

I have used the Shures, in terms of isolation they work great. Sound is good, you lose bottom end. Comfort, may take abit to get acustom to, they can sometimes loosen up and have to be adjusted during a performance.
I like using them but always need to add a cabinet for bottom end, just so I can feel the kick drum more than anything else. You will have to learn good hand signals with people onstage for these really block out sound, normal talking between others onstage becomes void.

Westone also makes dual driver in-ear monitors, but at a hefty cost. It all depends on what you can afford. www.westone.com.

went and tryed the E1's and they sounded very nice but werent as comfortable as the E2's (plus i could only afford the E2's) and the E5's for like $499 were no better to be honest.

The E2's are superb value at only like $70 and they sound great and isolate just the right amount of drums and are very comfortable........comes with lots of different sleeves to try and a carry case. great value.......check them out!

Where did you get them? I'm not sure if I need these as my gigs it seems to be difficult just to get a monitor! I'm thinking maybe something that will just cut out the dangerously loud high end stuff would work better for my gig?

Got them in a trade place called "Hand Held Audio" in Tottenham, London.

Also good for practice, isolates enough drums so u can play to music etc for long periods of time......very comfortable.
